Historically, this neighborhood was characterized by small row houses generally referred to as “maisons ouvrières”. Lately, whilst keeping its feeling of being in a tightly-knit village, due to its strategic location to the city center and to the nearby forest, it has become a very attractive area to live in.
The project consisted in uniting 2 small houses. On the street side, as its 2 different houses, the existing materials and typology were entirely respected and restored. The new windows is the only element which are identical in both cases, making a discreet connection between the two.
Towards the back, with its gorgeous garden of over 1000 m², it was asked to unite the two houses homogenously and to create a generous extension on the ground floor that would become the heart of the new home: an informal and well-lit room that would accommodate a dining room, a family room, a reading area…
